Introduction of Eucrasia
Eucrasia is an attacking blade that is part of Nexy＇s 6th generation. Evolving over time into our
new line of blades, we are making a lot of progress and rapidly moving forward into the
competitive market trend. Until the 6th generation, Nexy primarily focused on producing unique
table tennis equipment. While creating new products with specific performance goals, Nexy
avoided characteristics that resembled other brands. If at any time a product in development
was similar to another brand＇s item, production was cancelled and the project was tossed out
before completing a sellable product.
But when Nexy started to sponsor the Samsung team and many professional players in Korea,
the pressure increased to produce something similar to other brands — but better. This is why
Nexy has moved its focus from ＂being different＂ to ＂being better,＂ while trying not to lose its
unique brand identity along the way.
So, Eucrasia is highly compatible with other top-class blades from other brands while retaining
the uniqueness of Nexy’s design. In this article, you will learn the main concept of this blade
design and why it is superior to similar models available in the market.
First of all, Nexy＇s 6th generation focuses on the top-class players, while other generations were
more concerned about the broader market, from beginners to professional players. In most
cases, top-level players have different requirements than lower-level players. I knew this, but
tried to address the general needs of all levels. But with this new generation of blades, Nexy is
specifically targeting the performance needs of world-class players. That was the primary goal
for the design of Eucrasia. Therefore, before beginning the design process of this new blade, I
had to define the character of the modern table tennis game. Below you will find the story of
how I arrived at the basic concept of Eucrasia:
1. Modern Game
After adopting the ABS balls, the playing style of professional players widely changed. The new
ball had less spin, and this factor guides players to focus more on prompt attack timing, not the
amount of spin. In order to generate a lot of spin, players now need to create enough space for
a big swing movement. Players used to step back to create more time and space for that big
swing, but in modern matches there is rarely enough time. Many modern day players are
playing closer to the table, hitting the ball just after the bounce from the table surface.
2. Blade Trend
When we focus more on timing, rather than spin, we need a blade that is stable and powerful for
playing close to the table. Specifically, W968 by DHS led the way and set an example for many
table tennis brands. After carefully studying that blade, Nexy produced Pro ALC and PRO
ALC+.
However, those two blades are more or less lacking uniqueness, and I wanted to design
something a little different from W968, while keeping the important char
